REALTEK ETHERNET CONTROLLER DRIVER OVERWATCH UPGRADE
There is out-of-kernel driver for 8168 in portage, you can use it if you really want, but it requires rebuild every time you upgrade your kernel. It works nevertheless, whatever this missing firmware is supposed to provide is not essential. If you still need help, pastebin the kernel configuration you have so far so that we can review it for prerequisites.Ĩ168 works well with in-kernel 8169 driver, although in some cases it complains abut missing firmware. If fturco's advice does not help, try using the search feature for R8169 or for REALTEK to find relevant symbols. I think it is more likely that you are missing some prerequisite, so the option is not shown, or perhaps you are seeking it under a name other than the one the kernel now uses. Support for hardware that saw wide usage is generally kept until it becomes quite unlikely that anyone would still have working versions of that hardware. I think you should just enable the CONFIG_R8169 kernel option: Device drivers > Network device support > Ethernet driver support > Realtek devices > Realtek 8169/8168/8101/8125 ethernet support. If something is no longer supported do you use an older kernel? Please correct me if I am wrong (I want to be). When running make menuconfig it seemed to me that the following tree might not quite work to help you find the latest set of ethernet drivers it supports: RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 09) The ethernet controller I am using is listed here:īucketlist /usr/src/linux # lspci | grep -color EthernetĠa:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. I am trying to manually compile a new kernel (5.6.14) on an FX 8350 box running amd64 stable. Posted: Sat 3:44 pm Post subject: are realtek ethernet controllers still supported in kernel?
